No one goes to greater lengths to make a patients dental appointment as pleasurable as possible. Dr. Kinser, himself, has spent numerous hours in the dental chair as the recipient of serveral crowns and fillings over the years. As he himself is a "dental chicken" of sorts, he always goes the extra mile to ensure that you are treated as he would like to be treated. A dental visit is generally looked upon as an event that is going to be painful or result in pain, when in fact, this does not have to be the case at all. If the dentist takes the time to ensure proper anesthesia and allow the patient to control the pace of the appointment then most people will find that the same appointment that was traumatic with one dentist is a "walk in the park" with Dr. Kinser.

Most patients dental fear is related to an event that happened in the past. Once the event is identified and discussed openly the necessary steps can be taken to ensure that the same thing or something similar will never happen again. Only through a mutually trusting relationship is a patients who has had a negative experience with a dentist able to overcome their fears and return to the dental chair.

Are There Any Medications That Can Make A Dental Appointment Easier?

Thankfully - YES

The Most Common is NITROUS OXIDE:

There are many medications that can make a dental appointment much easier for you by lowering your stress level. Dr. Kinser uses Nitrous Oxide (laughing gas) for any person who requests it during their appointment. Nitrous Oxide is quickly absorbed by the blood when inhaled through the nose and the effects can be felt almost immediatly. It will relax you and make time go by very rapidly. Nitrous Oxide is also very quickly flushed from the body when the body is given 100% oxygen. After 7 minutes there is not a trace of Nitrous Oxide left in the body. Now isn't that great - You're relaxed at an appointment that seems to speed by and you can still drive yourself home or return to work afterwords!

Is There Any Other Medication That I Can Take To Help Me With My Fear?

Yes

There are several prescription medications which can help aleviate your anxieties. Dr. Kinser will know the best one for you to take orally before your dental appointment.

Can Dr. Kinser "Put Me To Sleep" For My Dental Appointments?

Yes

Dr. Kinser works in his office with a liscensed anesthesiologist. The anesthesiologist will administer the proper medications to induce a level of sedation that is much like a very, very deep sleep. You still breathe for yourself and respond to verbal stimulation, but you "sleep" throughout the appointment and wake up with no memory of the events that took place while you were under the sedative medications. This means that all the dentistry is completed and you don't even have to remember it taking place.

Is General Anesthesia Safe?

Absolutely - The medical sophistication we have today has allowed both physicaians and dentists to treat patients in ways that result in pleasuralbe visits. General Anesthesia is used every day all over the world on tens of thousands of people without incidence. It is actually far safer to be placed under general anesthesia than it is to drive your car to the local market.

Remember - Fear is a very real thing that prevents people from doing many things they ought to do. It is OK to be afraid of something but it is not OK to let fear make an irrational decision for you. The decision to neglect your oral health and avoid the care of a dentist will almost certainly result in a condition that is very expensive and time consuming to fix. Let Dr. Kinser and his team help you overcome your dental fears.
